ecoQ, Qatar’s first International Environment Protection Conference & Exhibition announced yesterday that it has secured the appointment of Mr. Rudiger Tscherning, Director of the Qatar University College of Law Forum on Energy and Environmental Law, to its Advisory Committee. Mr. Tscherning joins H.E. Sheikh Hassan Bin Mohammad Bin Ali Al-Thani, Honorary Chairman, Dr. Saif Al Hajari, Chairman and Dr. Nadia Suliman, Advisor from the Ministry of Environment, in providing specialist advice to the conference organisers, Stallion Advertising. Mr. Tscherning will also be addressing conference delegates in a keynote speech on the status of regulatory and policy frameworks for developing renewable energy, ‘cleantech’ and energy efficiency technologies in Qatar, as part of Qatar’s drive towards a more sustainable management of the environment.
Mr. Tscherning commented that “the State of Qatar is not alone in having to address the challenges of environmental protection, sustainability and energy efficiency - the European Union only last week set out a revised policy framework on energy efficiency to improve on its track-record in these areas.” For Tscherning, the key issue is “how governments, academia and industry can interact to promote and coordinate emerging policy and legislation, foster long-term planning and reduce investment insecurity. I see this as the clear role of the Forum on Energy and Environmental Law and my participation in eco-Q is an excellent opportunity to evaluate the latest developments in energy efficiency, clean-tech and wider environmental protection technologies for future implementation in the State of Qatar.”
Tscherning noted that “events such as eco-Q will provide a high-level platform for industries and consumers to assess the potentials of energy efficiency technologies. The message is that these technologies are about a lower energy input for the equivalent level of economic activity or service, with associated social, economic and environmental benefits for the State of Qatar”.
In early 2011, Mr. Tscherning was recruited by Qatar University from the internationally acclaimed Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy in the United Kingdom, where his research activities focused on the latest developments in energy, environmental and climate law and policy. A qualified English solicitor, Mr. Tscherning previously practiced in energy and environmental law in international law firms in London and holds degrees from Trinity College Dublin, the University of Nottingham, the College of Law London and the Graduate School of Natural Resources Law, Policy and Management at the University of Dundee. Widely publicised in his fields of expertise and a regular speaker at academic and industry conferences, Mr. Tscherning is an active committee member of a number of international legal and business organisations. A native of Germany, Mr. Tscherning is bi-lingual in English and German and also speaks French and Spanish.
Under the Patronage of H.E. Abdullah bin Mubarak bin Iabboud Al Moudadi, Minister of Environment, ecoQ is officially supported by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, AHK German Delegation for Industry & Trade and the Friends of Environment Center. The two day exhibition and conference will take place on 16-18 October 2011 at Doha Exhibition Centre.
